Mogadishu, Somalia – The Federal Government of Somalia has issued a strong statement condemning what it describes as “illegal actions” by the Ethiopian government in Gedo region. Released on Friday, the statement accuses Ethiopia of interfering in the internal affairs of Somali communities and fueling clan conflicts in the region.
According to Somalia’s Ministry of Information, Ethiopian troops moved from Dolow district towards Buulo Haawo district earlier this morning. However, the advance was reportedly thwarted by local residents and the Somali National Armed Forces (SNA), who confronted the Ethiopian forces and prevented them from entering Buulo Haawo.
The Somali government asserts that these actions are part of a broader pattern of Ethiopian interference, infringing on Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “The illegal actions of the Ethiopian Government in Gedo region undermine peace and stability and violate Somalia’s right to self-determination,” the statement read.
While emphasizing Somalia’s commitment to maintaining peaceful and harmonious relations with its neighbors, the government accused Addis Ababa of instigating regional conflicts and destabilizing the area.
In its statement, the Federal Government reaffirmed its readiness to defend Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against external aggression. It also urged the international community, including the United Nations and the African Union, to condemn Ethiopia’s actions, warning that such provocations could escalate tensions and threaten regional and global peace.
The incident in Gedo highlights the fragile state of relations between Somalia and Ethiopia, with the Somali government signaling that it will not tolerate any further violations of its territorial sovereignty.
