December 12, 2024 :- Somdaily: The United States has warmly welcomed the December 11 Declaration signed by the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The agreement reaffirms the sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity of both nations while advancing cooperation on shared interests.
Acknowledging Türkiye’s leadership in facilitating the Declaration, the U.S. emphasized its support for upcoming technical negotiations that aim to secure Ethiopia’s reliable and sustainable access to the sea for mutual economic benefit, while ensuring Somalia’s territorial integrity.
The U.S. highlighted the importance of ongoing dialogue and engagement, describing it as vital for achieving a stable and prosperous future for both nations. It further encouraged Ethiopia and Somalia to strengthen their collaboration on mutual security priorities, particularly in combating the threat posed by al-Shabaab.
The United States reiterated its commitment to fostering strong bilateral relationships with both Somalia and Ethiopia and supporting their shared efforts toward economic development and regional stability.
