Mogadishu, Somalia – The Banadir Regional Court has issued an arrest warrant for Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madoobe), the president of Jubaland State, following accusations of treason. The court acted on a request from the Attorney General’s Office, which alleges that Madoobe has violated Articles 184, 186, and 217 of the Somali Penal Code, including committing crimes against the unity of the Somali nation, sharing information with a foreign country for hostile purposes, and undermining the country’s constitution.
The court instructed the Somali Police Force to arrest Madoobe and bring him before the court for further proceedings. The charges are part of a broader political dispute, with tensions rising between Jubaland and the Somali Federal Government.
The arrest warrant comes just one day after Madoobe’s re-election as Jubaland president, exacerbating an already strained relationship between the regional and federal authorities. It remains unclear whether the warrant will be enforced, given the complex political dynamics and the near-impossibility of executing such an order without escalating the ongoing tensions.
