Doolow, Somalia – The District Commissioner of Doolow, Mohamed Hussein Abdi (Lafeey), held a meeting with senior officials from Trocaire Health Organization in Somalia to discuss ways of enhancing healthcare delivery and expanding medical services for vulnerable communities in the district.
The discussions focused on improving maternal and child health services, training local healthcare professionals, and addressing the medical needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in and around Doolow. The meeting also reviewed strategies to ensure that essential health services reach all residents, in line with the broader goal of achieving universal health coverage in the region.
Commissioner Lafeey commended Trocaire for its continued contribution to public health in Doolow and across the Gedo region, praising the organization’s visible impact on improving healthcare access for marginalized populations. He encouraged Trocaire to further intensify its efforts and strengthen collaboration with local authorities to achieve sustainable results.
Also in attendance was Abdiqani Hassan Uumiye, Head of Projects and Institutional Relations in Doolow, who reaffirmed the district’s commitment to working closely with humanitarian partners to enhance service delivery and community well-being.
Trocaire has been a longstanding health partner in Somalia, particularly in South West and Jubbaland States, where it provides primary healthcare, nutrition, and maternal services. The engagement between Doolow District and Trocaire underscores the importance of local–NGO partnerships in addressing healthcare challenges in remote and displacement-affected areas.
The meeting marks another step in the ongoing efforts by local authorities and development partners to strengthen Somalia’s health systems and bring essential care closer to communities most in need.
