Somalia’s Climate Change – Commissioner Mohamud Moallim and Minister of Environment and Climate Change Khadija Makhzumi are leading Somalia’s delegation at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan. The conference, which runs from November 11 to 22, 2024, brings together nearly 200 countries to discuss climate finance, fossil fuel transition, and strategies to mitigate climate change.
Somalia faces significant challenges due to climate shocks, including recurring droughts and floods. Minister Makhzumi, who participated in the opening of the conference, is leading a large delegation that includes the Somali Ambassador to Turkey and Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Agency Mohamud Macallin Abdulle, and other important members.
