Baydhabo – Somdaily :- A suspected Turkish drone airstrike occurred on the outskirts of Baidoa town, according to reports received by Somdaily.
The strike reportedly targeted caves in the area. According to photos taken at the scene, the caves had been used by herders and farmers to store maize and sorghum.
However, officials from the current administration’s security agencies said the caves targeted in the airstrike were being used as storage facilities by forces loyal to former President Abdiaziz Mohamed Hassan Lafta-Garen.
Civilians who gathered at the site said their own storage areas had also been hit in the strike. They expressed concern for their safety and questioned whether adequate measures had been taken to distinguish civilian property and activities from military targets.
The airstrike comes as investigations continue into a separate strike targeting the home of former Commander of Somalia’s Custodial Corps, Gen. Mahad Abdirahman, in Dollow district of the Gedo region.
The general, who is accused of being a key leader and alleged mastermind behind guerrilla-style operations by forces loyal to the former Southwest President, survived the attack, which appeared to have targeted him in an assassination attempt.
