Southwest State Ministry of Internal Security Launches Community Policing Training in Baidoa to Strengthen Public–Police Cooperation

Baidoa, Somalia – The Ministry of Internal Security of the Southwest State of Somalia has launched a five-day training program in Baidoa as part of the ongoing Community Policing Initiative, aimed at enhancing security collaboration and trust between local communities and law enforcement agencies.

The training, officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Internal Security, brings together security officers and officials from various law enforcement institutions operating in Baidoa. The sessions are designed to equip participants with modern approaches to community policing, focusing on partnership, proactive engagement, and mutual trust-building with the public.

According to the Ministry, the training specifically targets officers serving at Howlwadaag and Al-Amxaar police stations, two key areas in Baidoa where community-police cooperation is critical for maintaining peace and stability.

Community policing has increasingly become a central pillar in Somalia’s security reform agenda, promoting collaboration between civilians and security institutions as an effective approach to preventing crime and resolving local conflicts peacefully.

Officials at the opening session underscored the importance of enhancing public confidence in security institutions, noting that stability and safety can only be sustained when communities see police officers as partners rather than enforcers.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting continuous capacity-building programs that empower security forces to serve citizens more effectively and in accordance with principles of accountability, transparency, and respect for human rights.
