Baidoa, Somalia – The Southwest-state Minister for Public Works and Housing, Dahir Abdi Abdulahi, along with the Chief of Staff of the Southwest Government, Mr. Abdifatah Mahad Abdirahman, officially opened a significant meeting on the management of land disputes for the communities in Baidoa.
The capacity-building session targets traditional elders and civil society groups in Baidoa district and is expected to continue for five days. The objective of the training, as highlighted by the Minister for Public Works during the opening session, is to transfer knowledge to the participants in managing conflicts arising from land disputes.
Baidoa, which is the hub for internally displaced persons with approximately more than 700,000 displaced people, has over the years experienced land-related conflicts and evictions of internally displaced persons who encroached on private land. These issues have, in many instances, claimed lives and contributed to instability in the district.
This workshop is expected to contribute to increased knowledge and awareness among elders and civil society groups in managing land disputes in Baidoa, ultimately aiming to reduce conflict and promote stability in the region.
