Baidoa, Somalia – The Ministry of Women, Family Affairs and Human Rights of the South West State, in collaboration with UNATMIS, has successfully concluded a two-day capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening the skills and knowledge of members of the South West Women’s Peace Network.
The workshop brought together 20 women participants and focused on enhancing mediation, negotiation, and conflict management skills, with a particular emphasis on gender-inclusive approaches to peacebuilding and reconciliation.
The initiative sought to empower women peace advocates with practical tools to play a more active and effective role in conflict resolution and community cohesion, while promoting the integration of gender perspectives in all stages of peace processes.
Throughout the two days, participants took part in interactive learning sessions, including group work, role plays, and simulations, to apply the lessons learned in real-world conflict mediation contexts.
The training also featured discussions on local and global experiences of women’s participation in peacebuilding, providing valuable opportunities for peer learning and exchange of best practices.
Participants expressed gratitude for the workshop’s relevance and interactive methodology, highlighting that the knowledge and techniques acquired will greatly contribute to their ongoing efforts in promoting peace and stability within their communities.
This effort underscores the South West Government’s ongoing commitment to empowering women as key actors in peacebuilding and sustainable development.
