Nairobi, November 12, 2025 — The Somalia Future Council (Golaha Mustaqbalka Soomaaliyeed) has issued a strong statement rejecting four key actions allegedly being pursued by the Federal Government of Somalia, declaring them “null and void” and contrary to the national interest.
In a communiqué released at the conclusion of a three-day conference held in Nairobi, the Council — composed of representatives from the National Salvation Forum and officials from Puntland and Jubaland — expressed concern over the current political and security situation in the country, particularly the Federal Government’s handling of constitutional and electoral processes.
The Council stated that:
1. Any amendments made or to be made to the 2012 Provisional Constitution without adhering to the proper constitutional review process are invalid.
2. Any move to extend the mandate of federal institutions beyond their constitutional term limits is illegitimate.
3. Any election conducted unilaterally by the Federal Government without consensus among political stakeholders will not be recognized.
4. Any politicization or obstruction of movement within the country by federal authorities for personal or economic gain endangers Somalia’s unity and stability.
The Council further emphasized that these actions threaten national cohesion and undermine democratic governance. It called on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s administration to adhere strictly to the constitution and uphold previously agreed frameworks guiding Somalia’s transition and upcoming elections.
In its final remarks, the Council reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Somalia’s unity and urged citizens to stand together in defending the country’s constitutional order and democratic future.
The statement concluded with a renewed call for dialogue and cooperation among all Somali stakeholders to ensure transparent and timely federal elections in 2026.
