Mogadishu, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia today led a crucial emergency meeting focused on combating the financing of terrorism. The session, which included members of the National Anti-Money Laundering Committee (NAMLC), security agencies, and other key government bodies, served as a follow-up to the government’s previous successes in disrupting terrorist financing operations.
The meeting’s main objective was to expedite efforts aimed at weakening the financial networks supporting terrorism. Strong decisions were made, targeting individuals and entities involved in funding terrorist groups, particularly Al-Shabaab.
President Mohamud made it clear that anyone involved in activities that contribute to the financing of terrorism would face severe legal consequences. He instructed government agencies, particularly security forces, to take swift action across Somalia to curb the extortion activities carried out by Al-Shabaab, which has been a major source of funding for its operations.
The President also issued a stern warning to Somali business owners and citizens, urging them to be vigilant in their dealings and avoid any engagement with terrorist groups. He underscored that those found guilty of supporting terrorist financing would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
This emergency meeting comes at a critical juncture, as the Somali government intensifies its efforts to eradicate terrorism, aiming to strengthen the country’s security and overall stability.
