Somali Parliament Speaker Elected Chair of East African Legislative Assembly Speakers’ Forum for 2025–2026

Mogadishu — SomDaily.com :- Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, H.E. Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe), has been elected Chair of the Speakers’ Forum of East African Community (EAC) Parliaments for the 2025–2026 term. The election took place during the 20th Speakers’ Conference held in Kampala, Uganda.

Speaker Madobe, who led the Somali delegation at the conference, joined regional counterparts in reviewing the outcomes of previous meetings, examining reports of EAC parliamentary secretariats, and assessing draft legislative frameworks aimed at strengthening regional cooperation. Somalia’s Ambassador to Uganda, Fardowsa Mohamed Qanyare, also attended the session.

In his address, Speaker Madobe thanked the leadership of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), the Parliament of Uganda, and the EAC Secretariat for facilitating the conference. He emphasized that the meeting comes at a critical moment as EAC member states work to advance peace, integration, and collective progress.

The Speaker highlighted Somalia’s renewed commitment to active participation in the region, noting the recent election of nine Somali representatives to the EAC Legislative Assembly—marking the country’s full reintegration into regional parliamentary diplomacy.

He also underscored Somalia’s preparations to hold its first direct local government elections in 56 years by the end of this year, calling it a major milestone in the country’s democratic transformation.

During the conference, member states unanimously agreed that Somalia will host next year’s Speakers’ Forum in May 2026.
