Kinshasa, November 10, 2025 — The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), H.E. Ilyas Ali Hassan, officially presented his credentials to President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo in a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Kinshasa.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Ilyas conveyed his gratitude to the Government and people of the DRC for their warm hospitality and continued support to the Somali community residing in the country.
The Somali envoy extended his heartfelt congratulations to President Tshisekedi on the DRC’s recent election to the United Nations Security Council, emphasizing that as a fellow member state, Somalia looks forward to enhanced cooperation with the DRC on both regional and global issues.
Ambassador Ilyas reaffirmed Somalia’s strong commitment to deepening bilateral relations with the DRC in the areas of politics, economy, and social development. He further proposed the establishment of a Somalia–Congo Business Forum aimed at boosting trade, investment, and economic partnerships between the two nations.
In his remarks, Ambassador Ilyas also underscored the importance of facilitating business licenses and visa processes to promote the free movement of entrepreneurs between the two countries, both of which are members of the East African Community (EAC).
The credential ceremony marked a significant step toward strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
