Mogadishu, Somalia – November 30, 2024 – The Deputy Chairman of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Dr. Ahmed Abdi Adan, officially launched a vital capacity-building training program on disaster preparedness today at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) in Mogadishu. The training, which aims to enhance the disaster response capacity of SoDMA personnel, is generously funded by Qatar Charity.
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Ahmed Abdi Adan emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness and the need for effective emergency response mechanisms to protect the Somali population from the devastating impact of natural and man-made disasters. “This training is crucial in strengthening the ability of our team to respond efficiently to emergencies, mitigate disaster risks, and protect vulnerable communities,” said Dr. Adan.
The training, which is part of SoDMA’s ongoing efforts to build capacity and improve disaster response operations, will focus on key topics such as disaster preparedness, emergency response protocols, and the international guiding principles of disaster risk reduction. Participants will also receive practical tools to enhance their ability to manage crises effectively.
The workshop, set to run for several days, brings together SoDMA staff from various departments as well as representatives from Qatar Charity.
