Baraawe, Somalia – The Chief of the Somali National Army (SNA), General Odowaa Yusuf Raage, on Saturday arrived in Baraawe, the regional capital of Lower Shabelle, where he officially inaugurated the newly constructed headquarters of the 6th Battalion under the 60th Division of the Somali National Army.
The new facility, which will serve as the central command for the battalion, is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening security operations and improving administrative efficiency within the division. The structure has now been formally handed over to the operational units stationed in the area.
Upon landing at the Baraawe Airstrip, General Odowaa was warmly received by the Commander of the 60th Division, Colonel Mohamed Yaris Aden, along with senior military officers and local officials.

Addressing the troops during the ceremony, General Odowaa highlighted that the inauguration of the new command center forms part of the military’s broader strategy to modernize infrastructure, enhance readiness, and boost the operational capabilities of the Somali National Army nationwide.
“The Somali National Army continues to grow stronger through better organization, training, and improved facilities. The completion of this command center demonstrates our commitment to building a capable and professional force,” the Army Chief said.
Military officials present at the event described the project as a significant milestone in efforts to reinforce the SNA’s presence in key strategic areas and to improve coordination among various military units in southern Somalia.

The opening of the new headquarters is also seen as part of the Federal Government’s continued investment in security sector reforms — aimed at ensuring lasting stability and enabling Somali forces to take full responsibility for the country’s defense.
