Mogadishu, Somalia — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia has awarded the National Medal of Honor to the President of the Republic of Djibouti, H.E. Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, in recognition of his steadfast support, brotherhood, and unwavering solidarity with the Somali people and government throughout his tenure as Djibouti’s leader.

President Hassan Sheikh praised President Guelleh’s remarkable contributions to peace, stability, and regional cooperation, noting that Djibouti has consistently stood shoulder to shoulder with Somalia during its most critical periods.
He further stated that the medal symbolizes the deep-rooted bonds of friendship, mutual respect, and collaboration between the two nations. The Somali leader also highlighted that the Somali people continue to honor the historic legacy of the Arta Peace Conference, which laid the foundation for Somalia’s state-building journey—an initiative championed under President Guelleh’s leadership.
The ceremony underscored the shared vision of both countries to strengthen their longstanding ties and advance the collective progress of the Horn of Africa.
