Mogadishu, Somalia – The newly appointed Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, Prof. Saalim Caliyoow Ibroow, received the leadership of the Somali Congress of Trade Unions (SOCOTU) at his office in Mogadishu.
The meeting, attended by the Minister of State Caynaanshe Yuusuf Xuseen and the Deputy Minister Aamino Xuseen Cali, focused on enhancing collaboration between the Ministry and labour unions, particularly in areas related to workers’ rights, job creation, and the development of a sustainable employment framework across the country.
During the discussion, Minister Saalim expressed appreciation for the continued efforts of SOCOTU in defending and promoting the welfare of Somali workers. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with trade unions, emphasizing that the Ministry will pursue policies that promote decent work, fair labour practices, and improved employment standards nationwide.
“Our Ministry is determined to work hand in hand with labour unions to build a fair, inclusive, and dynamic labour sector that protects workers’ rights and creates long-term employment opportunities,” said Minister Saalim.
The leadership of SOCOTU, on their part, welcomed the Minister’s commitment and pledged continued partnership in advancing the interests of workers and supporting the government’s labour and social development agenda.
The meeting marks an important step toward revitalizing the relationship between the Ministry and labour organizations, setting the tone for collaborative efforts aimed at ensuring a more equitable and prosperous future for Somalia’s workforce.
