Addis Ababa, December 12, 2024 – The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, has warmly welcomed the landmark agreement signed by Somali President H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Ethiopian Prime Minister H.E. Abiy Ahmed Ali in Ankara, Turkey, under the facilitation of Turkish President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
This agreement, which is seen as a crucial step toward regional stability and cooperation, reflects a shared commitment by Somalia and Ethiopia to resolving their differences through dialogue and mutual understanding. The Chairperson praised the two leaders for their high sense of responsibility in taking this decisive step and urged them to swiftly implement the measures outlined in the agreement.
H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat also congratulated President Erdoğan for his role in fostering dialogue and creating a platform for peaceful negotiation between the two nations. He emphasized the importance of consultation and dialogue in resolving conflicts, describing this process as being in the best interest of the peoples and governments involved.
